As your child grows, it’s important to teach them the life lessons that will help them succeed in life, and one of those life lessons is how to brush their teeth. Oral hygiene is extremely important if you want your child to have a strong and healthy smile, so why don’t you start teaching your child how to brush now so you can give them a chance to care for their pearly whites?
How do I know my child is ready to learn how to brush?
Each child is different when developing motor skills, so it’s up to you to decide when your child is ready. Generally, children tend to learn how to brush their teeth by the time they learn how to tie their shoes or by the time they enter preschool.
How do I teach my child how to brush?
Children successfully learn how to brush when you use observation and partnership. First, show your child how to brush by getting down to eye level with them and by demonstrating how to brush with your own smile. Show them how to scrub each tooth and feel free to have a little fun with it. The more fun your child thinks brushing is, the more they will want to learn. Then, give your child a child toothbrush with a pea-sized dab of toothpaste on it. Have them clean their smile on their own but be there brushing your teeth right alongside them. If they need help, please help them.
