You may have heard that dental sealants are great for the health of your teeth, and that they could even stop cavities from forming–but what else have you heard about this important treatment? For example, do you know if you’re a good candidate for sealants or why sealants benefit you?
Dental sealants are especially useful because they can help you prevent cavities. These sealants can help you keep plaque and bacteria out of the center of your teeth—meaning having sealants placed could help you keep your teeth even stronger. Sealants are especially useful in the back of your mouth where your teeth can be more difficult to clean.
But how do you know if sealants are right for you? Typically, children–specifically children between six and twelve years old–are the best candidates. However, anyone with healthy teeth can also be a good candidate. In addition, if your teeth are weak, our team may recommend sealants in an effort to save your teeth.
Sealants can last for many years, especially if they’re cared for well. But sealants should not take the place of regular brushing and flossing.
